On Friday, the Canadian Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Sean Fraser announced a reduction in processing time for issuing visit visas to Pakistani applicants. According to Mr. Fraser, Pakistani visa applications will now be processed within 60 days, a significant reduction from the previous processing time of 802 days. The minister also stated that the aim is to further reduce the processing time to 30 days in the future.
It should be noted that the website may still show the old processing time due to the processing of older applications from when borders were closed due to the pandemic. However, the backlog for Pakistani Temporary Resident Visas (TRVs) has been significantly reduced from 55,000 to less than 15,000.
The Canadian government has plans to invest in a new processing center in Islamabad to further reduce processing times and increase interview capacity in the Indo-Pacific region.
Pakistan is one of the top source countries for new immigrants to Canada, with thousands of Pakistanis, especially students, immigrating to Canada every year through programs like the Express Entry Program.
