PAKISTAN BRAIN DRAIN SITUATION 2023

It's worth noting that the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment's data only covers registered emigrants and not those who leave for study or direct immigration. The Bureau has been providing overseas employment to registered emigrants since 1971, with over 10 million emigrants served to date.

According to documents available to The Express Tribune, a significant increase in emigration was observed in 2022, with 765,000 people leaving Pakistan for foreign destinations, nearly three times the number of departures in 2021 and 288,000 emigrants in 2020. This year's data also included 92,000 highly-educated professionals such as doctors, engineers, information technology experts, and accountants.

In summary, the number of Pakistanis seeking opportunities overseas is on the rise, with Saudi Arabia being the most preferred destination.
